Together, we are launching an innovative program that provides temporary housing and vital support services within a compassionate assisted living environment for adults in Travis County experiencing homelessness.

Homelessness among adults is a growing challenge in Travis County, often complicated by chronic health conditions and difficulty accessing stable living environments.
Recognizing that health and housing are deeply intertwined, Parsons House Austin and Central Health saw an urgent need for a coordinated, compassionate solution that addresses both immediate shelter requirements and essential healthcare support.

Central Health
Travis County’s healthcare district, committed to improving the health of residents with low income. Central Health provides access to care for qualifying individuals through its Medical Access Program (MAP) and MAP Basic, connecting people to the healthcare services they need.


How It Works: The Residential Rooming Services Program
This partnership operates as part of Central Health’s Residential Rooming Services program, designed specifically for Travis County residents who:
- Are experiencing homelessness
- Are enrolled in Central Health’s MAP or MAP Basic programs
- Meet the criteria for requiring an assisted living level of care
Eligible individuals receive comprehensive support within a structured, caring framework.
Parsons House Austin Provides…
- Safe, stable, temporary housing in a dedicated room within our assisted living community.
- 3 nutritious meals daily and snacks.
- Personalized assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming).
- Medication management and reminders.
- A supportive, community-focused environment fostering dignity and respect.
Central Health Provides…
- Funding for the program services.
- Dedicated case management to coordinate healthcare and social service needs.
- Furnishings and essential personal items for resident rooms.
- Eligibility determination and enrollment management through MAP/MAP Basic.
The goal is to provide a secure foundation where residents can focus on healing, recovery, managing their health, and working with case managers towards securing long-term, stable housing and achieving greater independence.
